Introduction Norfolk is located in Northeast Nebraska in Madison County in the Elkhorn River Valley., Norfolk is only 15 miles from Madison, Nebraska, the county seat of Madison County.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 26.1 km² (10.1 mi²) of which 25.8 km² (10.0 mi²) are covered by land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) (0.99%) by water. It is covered by rolling hills which becomes more level to the south and southwest. The climate is favorable for farming and dairying. To the west, precipitation becomes lighter and the farming country gives way to the grazing lands of the Great Plains.
Norfolk experiences wide variations in temperature and precipitation. The day to day changes in weather conditions produce a wonderful, healthy climate to the northeast of Nebraska. Norfolk is subject to the strong and persistent winds which prevail over the Great Plains states.
